How to Make New Friends as a Woman in Your 20s

If you have found it harder to make friends as you have gotten older, you are not alone. Making genuine friendships in your twenties can feel surprisingly difficult, even though so many women are quietly feeling exactly the same way. Here is why it happens, and some real ways to build new friendships, including one that is coming soon.

Why making friends gets harder in your 20s

School and university hand you friendships almost automatically. You are surrounded by people your age, every day, with built-in things in common. Then life changes. People move cities, start demanding jobs, get into relationships, and the easy proximity disappears. Suddenly making friends takes actual effort, and nobody really teaches you how to do it as an adult.

The result is that a lot of women in their twenties feel lonely, even when their lives look full from the outside. If that is you, there is nothing wrong with you. It is one of the most common and least talked about experiences of this stage of life.

Real ways to make new friends as a woman in your 20s

1. Join activities you actually enjoy

Pilates classes, run clubs, pottery, book clubs, anything with regular attendance. Repeated exposure to the same people is how friendships naturally form. Pick something you genuinely like so showing up never feels like a chore.

2. Say yes more

Friendships often start with a single yes. The coffee invite, the birthday drinks, the group walk. Saying yes even when it feels easier to stay home is how the door opens.

3. Be the one who initiates

Most people are waiting to be invited. Being the woman who actually sends the message, suggests the plan, and follows up is rare and magnetic. People remember who made the effort.

4. Use communities built for connection

Sometimes you just need to find women who are also looking to connect. This is where the right community can change everything, giving you a place to find women nearby who want the same things you do.

A community built for women, coming soon

This is one of the reasons withHer exists. Alongside its safety features, withHer has a community feed built for women to genuinely connect, find someone to do Pilates with, walk with, grab a coffee with, or simply be part of something. It was inspired in part by watching how hard it can be for women to find their people at this stage of life.

withHer is launching soon. You can read the story behind why it was created, and join the waitlist to be among the first women to be part of the community when it goes live.

You are not alone in this

Wanting deeper friendships is not needy or strange. It is human. The women who build great friendships in their twenties are simply the ones who keep showing up and keep reaching out. Be one of them, and know that tools to make it easier are on the way.
